The Energy of Gratitude
There are moments in life when gratitude doesn’t come easily. We know we should feel grateful, but our hearts feel heavy, distracted, or numb. I’ve had those days, too — the kind when even the smallest joys seem out of reach. Yet it’s in those very moments that I’ve learned the true nature of gratitude: it’s not an emotion we chase, but an energy we choose to cultivate.
I remember one evening years ago after a long day of sessions. I felt drained, not in a painful way, but as though my inner light had dimmed a little. I sat quietly, tea cooling beside me, and instead of pushing the feeling away, I placed my hand over my heart. I whispered “thank you”, not for anything specific, just for the chance to be alive, to breathe, to witness another sunset.
At first, it felt hollow. But as I kept repeating those words, something subtle shifted. I could almost feel the energy of gratitude awakening, like a warm current moving through my chest. The tiredness didn’t vanish, but it softened. Love began to flow where resistance had been.
As I reflected on the day, I began thinking of each client I had seen: their faces, their energy, their stories. Each one had brought something unique into the space, and in some quiet way, they had all shown me something about myself. A mirror of strength, of vulnerability, of healing in progress. I realized how sacred that exchange truly is; in offering healing, I am also being healed. Gratitude deepened then, not only for their trust but for the reflection they offered. Each client, each session, is part of a greater energetic dialogue, a reminder that we are all students and teachers to one another.
Gratitude is one of the most powerful ways to balance our energy because it aligns us with love. When we offer thanks, even for something small, like the comfort of a blanket or the laughter of a friend, we tell the universe, I am open to receive. Energy responds to that openness. Our frequency rises, our hearts expand, and we begin to attract more of what nourishes us. Gratitude is not passive; it’s a living, breathing exchange with the energy around us.
If you’d like to feel this energy more deeply, try this simple gratitude ritual. Sit somewhere quiet, and take three slow, intentional breaths. On your inhale, imagine drawing in light, soft, golden, and warm. On your exhale, release any tension that blocks your heart. Place a hand over your chest and think of three things, or people, that you are grateful for. Let each thought rest gently in your heart like a glowing ember. Feel how the warmth grows. Whisper “thank you”, not to anyone in particular, but to the life force that flows through all things. Stay here for a few moments and allow that energy of love to surround you.
When I practice this, I’m reminded that gratitude isn’t about perfection or constant positivity. It’s about connection: to ourselves, to one another, and to the infinite web of energy that holds us all. Every “thank you” we speak sends a ripple of love into the world. And those ripples, no matter how small, always find their way back to us.
